What does OVA mean?

Original Video Animation abbreviated to OVA is a term used in Japan for anime titles that are released directly to retail sale, bypassing broadcast, cable and theatrical releases. OVA titles were originally available on VHS, though they later became available on other media such as Laserdisc and DVD. OVA is sometimes used, to refer to any extremely short anime series or special regardless of its release format.

OAV or original animated video is sometimes used in place of OVA, and the meaning is generally accepted to be the same. The abbreviation OAV was too similar to AV ("Adult Video"), causing OAV to be misinterpreted as original adult video, resulting in a shift towards the OVA abbreviation.

Witch Hunter Robin is an anime series created by Sunrise. It follows the STN-J, the Japanese branch of a secretive global organization, SOLOMON, that fights the harmful use of witchcraft, and mostly focuses on one of its members, Robin Sena.

Being a witch is a genetic trait, and the STN-J maintains a database of everyone with the trait and is empowered to eliminate or arrest them should their powers "awaken." Witches have a wide variety of abilities, though they usually possess only one each, and the powers can be anything from electrical generation or telekinesis to the ability to stop and start hearts at will.

Ayane Avatars and Buddy Icons

Ayane is a video game character from the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden video game series She has been a member of the DOA series from the beginning, starting as an unplayable training dummy in the Sega Saturn port of the original Dead or Alive. In Ninja Gaiden, she is depicted as a young ninja in training at the age of 14 who first appears to inform Murai and incidentally Ryu that the Hayabusa Village is under heavy attack. Throughout the game, Ayane provides tips and assistance to Ryu while always keeping an eye on his progress. In the expansion Ninja Gaiden Black, if the player chooses the Ninja Dog Easy mode, Ayane provides Ryu with assistance.

The head pilot of the Gekko-Go. She initially worked in the Information Bureau, but was demoted as an officer and became a spy later on. Towards the middle of the series, Talho cuts her hair and wears a different, less revealing outfit - due to the fact that she is pregnant with Holland's child, though Talho and Holland aren't officially involved in a relationship until later on in the series.

His work is incredible. Most Manga artists are renowned for their level of detail, but Otomo's is simply outstanding. The amount of work put into every panel makes you wonder how (even with assistants to help) he ever made any of his publishing deadlines.

Masane Amaha Witchblade Figure from Kotobukiya

Masane Amaha PVC figure Standing 260mm tall on a custom display Witchblade logo base, from manufactures Kotobukiya, based on the DVD version of the principal character from Anime Series Witchblade.

The Anime series starts six years after a devasting event which ravaged the city of Tokyo. Masane was discovered at ground zero, holding a baby and having no recollection of how she got there. Returning to Tokyo with the child, now called Rihoko, whom she cares for as a daughter, she discovers that the mysterious jewel attached to her right wrist is actually a legendary artifact known as the Witchblade. The series plays out as Masane gets herself involved in the struggle for power between a huge corporation and a government agency, while trying to live her life peacefully with her daughter.

Trivia: Due to the original version of the witchblade costume showing far too much skin, the TV series recolored most of the areas in black. These blackened portions were returned to the original coloring for the DVD release of the series.

Character from Fate/Stay Night, Rin Tōsaka is A model student and idol of Shirō's school, Rin is secretly a sorceress and Master in the Holy Grail War. She is descended from a long line of sorcerers, and though lacks a formal magic education, is extremely powerful in her own right. Her father was killed in the 4th Holy Grail War, and she has trained since his death to succeed him. She is perceptive, resourceful and avidly competitive. Rin helps out Shirō several times, it is hinted in the anime that she has a crush on Shirō.
