Appleseed Book 1: The Promethean Challenge

Written by Masamune Shirow, the author/artist of the cyberpunk cult-classic Ghost in the Shell, Masamune Shirow. This is volume one of a shonen manga that inspired both a 1988 and a 2004 Japanese animated film.

World War III has ended and two soldiers Deunan and her cyborg partner Briareos, do what they must to survive. Like a dream come through, they are offered an opportunity to live in Olympus, a Utopian City, capital of the new World Government. they soon discover that so long as there are different kinds of people there will be differences among them.

Beautiful art and a complex and fully realized future world set this title among the best graphic novel series available.

"Masamune Shirow's ability to design plausible yet impossible machinery and architecture is only bested by his story-telling prowess in this tale of two unlikely companions, the human girl and the hulking cyborg, is captivating in its exploration of relationships."
